In a showbiz career spanning fifty years in movies, television and cabaret, Lynne Perrie made a valuable contribution to the entertainment industry

She started out as a local singer in the Yorkshire clubs. By the mid 1960s, she was performing in France, Germany, South Africa and the US, on the same bill as Sacha Distel, the Rolling Stones, and, for 12 concerts, the Beatles.

In 1969 she was spotted by Ken Loach who cast her in his classic film Kes (1970). Coronation Street's casting director, Paul Bernard was impressed with her performance and cast her as religious battleaxe Ivy Tilsley without audition.

Lynne was sacked from the soap in March 1994 after twenty-three years. There were various rumours as too why she was sacked, but Lynne always insisted that it was because the show's producer felt that Ivy had run her course, and not because of her (Lynne's) plastic surgery. The character of Ivy was so popular that ITN even carried her departure on their lunchtime bulletin.

Thousands of letters fooled in wishing Lynne all the best and the inevitable stream of rosary beads and crucifixes followed on from her devout Catholic fans. But after she lost her job she struggled to find work again.

She went back on the cabaret circuit and appeared on chat shows. In 1996 Channel 4 made a documentary about her life and career entitled The Ghost Of Ivy Tilsley. Shortly after, she became semi-retired.

Lynne's other television credits include Queenie's Castle (1970-1972), Follyfoot (1971), Leeds United (1974) and The Cuckoo Waltz (1975).

Her best-selling memoir: Secrets Of The Street was published in 1994.

She is the sister of the comedian and actor Duggie Brown. Her husband Derrick and son Stephen outlive her.

"She was a great girl, a great entertainer and she'll be sadly missed." --- Paul Shane, 2006

Rest In Peace Lynne

RIP Lynne xxx

I created this page for all to remember a superb actress and singer.

I first became a fan of the wonderful woman after watching Kes, a beautiful film and a superb performance from Ms. Perrie. She was wonderful as Ivy Tilsley in Coronation Street for twenty-three years and gave the public a great deal of enjoyment. Her thrid most notable role was the neighbourhood busybody Mrs. Petty in the classic Yorkshire based sitcom Queenie's Castle. She was very funny playing this prissy character alongside Diana Dors.

Lynne also made me laugh on various chat shows and when I read her fascinating autobiography. She loved the stage and performed cabaret all over the world from the late 1950s to the late 1990s. She gave stunning performances in countless TV plays and raised vast amounts for charity. She went through so much in her life and finally found happiness in 1996 when she reconclied with her husband. She spent the next ten years caring for her family and making occasional guest appearances. (Her last TV slot was in 2004 on The Greatest TV Soap Moments presented by the late, great Mike Reid whom she appeared alongside with in the hilarious adult pantomime video Pussy In Boots ten years earlier.

What a survivor and a lovely lady!

God bless you Lynne! xxx
